Bougainvillea in Lindos, Rhodes - Preview

For my latest watercolour landscape tutorial I’ve chosen this scene featuring a hot day in this little village on the Greek island of Rhodes.

What caught my eye was the beautiful colour and irregular, soft shape of the Bougainvillea, hanging over the symmetrical structure of the arched doorway. There’s a lovely brightness to the warm, purple shadows on the crisp white of the walls, and the composition is completed by the way the steps on the right lead us into the scene, before disappearing out of view towards the centre.
