As I write this I am mindful that most of us now will be looking forward to the approaching spring and summer, with hopefully more freedom to go out and about and enjoy the lengthening days and warmer weather.

However I have noticed how well received the snow-scene tutorials have been by the members, so didn’t want to wait until the winter to put this one out.

Sturminster Newton Mill in Dorset was built in 1650, but is still a fully working water powered mill; although I have never managed to be there on a day it is open.

It’s a place I have visited a few times when on holiday in the area, and so I am no stranger to the scene.

Even though the light coating of snow simplifies the landscape and allows us to use quite a limited palette, there is still plenty to do here, with wet into wet washes, dry-brushwork in the foreground, and some lovely reflections in the mill pond.
