As soon as I saw this photo of the Lions, (a pair of pointed peaks in British Columbia, Canada), sent in by one of our members in Canada, Mary, I knew it would make a good, shorter, tutorial.

I chose to paint it one on a quarter imperial sheet of Saunders Waterford Rough, which provided an excellent texture for the dry-brush work on the mountains.

It’s often quite small details that attract me to a subject, and I was drawn to the tops of the distant fir trees, half way down the mountain. I particularly like the way they are clearly defined in the centre, but then get lost in the low mist towards the right.
