For my latest watercolour landscape tutorial, I have chosen the little hilltop village of Bagnoregio in central Italy.
I was fortunate enough to visit there last spring and was immediately impressed by this view of it with the church spire almost breaking the horizon line, and the pedestrian bridge snaking in from the right, leading the eye to the subject.
Because the main focal point is well into the distance I decided to treat it quite loosely, and haven’t attempted to depict every detail of the warm stuccoed buildings.
I have also treated the foreground loosely with plenty of wet into wet brushwork, in order to focus attention on the village and its rocky promontory with more clearly defined brushwork.
A great little scene to get stuck into.
