With this latest watercolour painting project, I started by looking for a subject that would make a grade 1 tutorial, as I felt that perhaps we were a bit light on those.
I've noticed that coastal scenes, particularly with a big sky, are quite popular with the membership, so this scene had an immediate appeal, with the dramatic sky, sea and foreground rocks, further enhanced by the addition of the old sailing ship; something we haven't attempted before.
It's a really interesting blend of big brush watercolour and fine detailing.
Great fun and very rewarding.
