For this week’s subject, I’ve chosen something a little different from the more traditional landscape scene.

When I entered this courtyard in a little corner of a garden in Menorca, I was drawn immediately to the shape of the archway, surrounded by all the colours and textures in the weathered stonework, which contrast with the smooth finish, and warm colour of the large pot on the left.

I was also attracted immediately to the trellis-like effect of the iron gate and the way it is half open, offering us a tantalising glimpse of the distant wall and doorway.

Quite an exacting little watercolour, especially the application of the masking fluid to the ironwork, but a very rewarding little scene and great fun to paint.

Happy painting.

Geoff.
