I didn’t have to venture far from home for my latest winter painting subject; the pretty village of Edensor in the Derbyshire Peak District.

I am working from a photo I took a few years ago on a walk in Chatsworth Park, when there was a thin layer of snow settled on the landscape.

It does appear quite busy and involved at first glance, but I will demonstrate how to simplify and break the scene down into much more manageable pieces; using sweeping shadows, that reflect the cool blue of the sky, to unify the scene and bring it all together.

A really satisfying project.
