St. George’s Island, Montenegro - Preview

I came across this beautiful scene while on holiday in Croatia last year, and as is usually the case with a strong subject, I have a good idea it’s going to work as a painting as soon as I see it.

There are so many good ingredients in the picture, but I was particularly drawn to the warmth of the honey-coloured rustic stonework, with the warm shadows, under the rich red roof tiles. This, in turn, is framed by the dark of the Cypress trees, all of which is set against the backdrop of the distant mountains.

Finally, there’s an opportunity to practice reflections in water, using the wet-into-wet technique.
