What do I need?
The following is a guide to the materials you will need, don’t worry if you haven’t got everything on the list as we can usually get by.
If you have any queries about the materials please do not hesitate to contact us.
Watercolour Paper
For all of these projects I have used either Saunders Waterford Rough, 300lb (640gsm) or Arches Aquarelle 300lb (640gsm) NOT.
Watercolour Paints
I always recommend tubes as opposed to pans, as it is easier to create fluid washes. The main palette I have used in these tutorials are listed below.
I have grouped them in blues, yellows and reds, with viridian being the only green straight from a tube that I use.
Blues
• French Ultramarine
• Cobalt Blue
• Cerulean Blue
• Phthalo Blue
Yellows
• Raw Sienna
• Aureolin
• Lemon Yellow or Cadmium Lemon
• Naples Yellow
• Primrose Yellow or Lemon Yellow Nickel Titanate
• Indian Yellow
Reds
• Burnt Sienna
• Light Red
• Cobalt Violet
• Rose Madder
Green
• Viridian
White
• Opaque White or White Gouache
Don’t worry if you haven’t got all these exact colours, there are others you can substitute.
Watercolour Brushes
If you have a few watercolour brushes you should be okay, the basic set I use is as follows:
• Round No. 16, 12, 8, 4 and 2
• Flat 1” and 0.5”
• A Liner Writer
Other Materials
• Palette, with generous mixing areas and the facility to keep fresh colour separated from mixed colour.

• Putty rubber
• B or 2B pencil
• Rule
• Drawing board
• Masking Tape
