For my latest watercolour project, we're in the Tuscany region of Southern Italy, looking at this traditional farmhouse.
It's set in a prominent position on this rated plateau, with a beautiful backdrop of distant hills and farmland, so typical of this region.
I was particularly drawn to the warm tones of the rustic brickwork and the way the building, which is the focal point of the whole scene, is framed by the Cypress trees, which in turn provide us with some important vertical shapes to contrast with the undulating landscape.
I've painted it on a larger, half imperial, sheet of paper, which enabled me to use broad sweeping strokes, with a large brush, for the background, before moving on to a more detailed approach for the main focal point of the building and trees.
It's a really enjoyable subject to get stuck into. Hope you enjoy it.
Happy Painting!
