In this tutorial, I return to Central Park in New York to paint a colourful late-autumn scene featuring Gapstow Bridge, park benches, decorative lamps, reflections, and the rich seasonal colours of the surrounding trees. It is quite a busy subject, but I will show you how to simplify the scene and focus on the important shapes, colours, and atmosphere.
During the demonstration, I will guide you through using masking fluid for key highlights, building soft wet-in-wet foliage, painting the stonework of the bridge, and adding the smaller details such as leaves, shadows, ripples, and architectural features. This is a lovely project for practising how to balance detail with atmosphere while capturing the warmth and character of an autumn day in the park.
Happy Painting,
Geoff.
