For today’s watercolour landscape scene, I’ve chosen this really colourful Lavender field in Provence, in southeastern France.

This is full of elements I really enjoy in a painting subject.

There are the cool grey distant hills that gradually descend into glimpses of far-away farmland. This then leads us into the middle distance where we see the perfectly positioned rustic, old ruined barn, rendered in a strong, warm stone colour, and framed by a large tree, giving this essential focal point a bit of extra height.

The scene is completed with some lovely colour in the Lavender fields and an interesting approach to the foreground.
