For today’s watercolour tutorial, I have chosen a little scene in the hilltop village of Bagnoregio in the Italian region of Lazio.
I can spend hours wandering around these ancient Mediterranean villages, and can usually find numerous painting subjects amongst the narrow passageways, rustic buildings and streets.
Ordinarily I don’t think two side-by-side doorways would make a good composition, but in this instance, I like the way one doorway is positioned higher than the other, and the stone steps, large Azalea bush and green foliage help to group everything together into one pleasing composition.
I think the various techniques employed and the rendering of the architectural detail, make for an absorbing and satisfying subject.
Happy Painting,
Geoff.
