Today’s brand new watercolour landscape project takes us to the county of Dorset, where we’re visiting the ruins of 11th-century Corfe Castle.

The way it occupies this elevated position on a grassy hill, with a commanding view of the surrounding landscape, makes it a perfect composition.

It gives us the opportunity to work loosely to create a big sky, before continuing to render the castle and its ramparts with more detailed brushwork and careful use of shadow to create form and shape.

We can then return to looser, more wet-into-wet techniques for the hill and foreground trees.

Happy Painting,
Geoff.
