This is the first of what I like to call my “Christmas Tutorials”, so I’ve chosen a scene that seems to me to have so many of the traditional festive ingredients.

I thought that if I put this out reasonably early in the season, it would give you time to make it into a possible Christmas card design that you could personalise and send out to friends and family.

We’ve got the clear blue sky and the rich dark green of the fir trees, which contrasts perfectly with the warm red of the house.

The contours of the land are described by the blue and grey shadows, which also help to lead us to the focal point of the scene.

A great little subject that hopefully will put us in a festive mood.
