For the latest of my watercolour landscape painting projects, I’ve chosen this scene based on a photo I took a few years ago while on a walk in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley, in the Lake District.
I felt that this scene lent itself to a panoramic, or letterbox-shaped format, where the length is more than twice the depth.
This is the first time on the website that I have worked to this format, and I think it lends itself to a larger, half-imperial sheet of paper, which is what I have used myself, rather than a smaller quarter-imperial sheet, which would make some of the detail quite small.
It’s quite a busy composition, with opportunities to practice sky, hills, rustic buildings and several different types of trees, using a host of watercolour techniques.
Something to really lose yourself in, and enjoy some pure painting time.
Happy Painting,
Geoff.
