For this latest watercolour landscape project, I have chosen the less often used portrait format, which really suits the scene, and gives us ample room to explore the tall trees and forest detail.

When choosing this subject, I was drawn to the brightly lit background that we can glimpse through the branches and the patchy autumn foliage. I also like the added interest provided by the stream, just visible in the middle distance.

There are some interesting colour combinations along the way, and the opportunity to practice some dry-brush techniques. A few touches of body colour are applied sparingly and add to the overall effect of brightly lit foliage, partially obscuring our view of the tree trunks.
