The subject of this week’s watercolour landscape tutorial is a very topical one, featuring the rich, warm, red and yellow shades of Autumn in New England.

This painting, however, isn’t just about the trees, as I think the white clapboard house that is so typical of this region gives us a vital focal point and an important colour contrast, with its cool white walls and blue shadows.

I’ve employed plenty of techniques along the way, from wet-into-wet to dry-brushwork, rounding it all up with some fine detail on the building and the truck.

A lovely project to devote some time to as the days gradually shorten, and we maybe spend a bit more time indoors.

Happy Painting,
Geoff.
