This atmospheric little scene is in Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast.

I love walking along this long stretch of shingle, with the town on one side and the open sea on the other, passing by the multi coloured little boats, with all the discarded nets and lobster pots etc strewn around them.

Occupying almost three quarters of the paper; it’s a great opportunity to paint a big sky hanging over the cottage roofs and chimney pots, with just a glimpse of the distant sea.

When choosing the subject, I was also drawn to the foliage on the left, with the grasses, weeds and colourful wild flowers breaking up the dry, flat plane of the shingle.

Lots to enjoy here,

Happy Painting.
