What particularly drew me to this scene wasn’t just the warm colours and tones of the autumn foliage, but the way these soft, middle distance shapes contrast with the harder, more angular shapes of the offices and sky scrapers, rendered in cooler greyer colours in the distance.

Achieving this contrast of hard and soft shapes isn’t as difficult as it may at first seem, so long as you are careful when applying the masking fluid into a wet background right at the outset.

Looking at the finished painting now, I regret not including a few people walking through the park; however I might re-visit the painting at the next filming session and describe and demonstrate how to add figures.
