For this Autumn painting project, I’ve chosen as the subject a covered bridge in New England.

There are so many of the kinds of elements I love to paint included in this landscape. It’s got a bridge spanning rushing water, rocks and boulders in a variety of shapes and sizes, and the fascinating weathered timber structure of the bridge itself; all this in a forest setting, surrounded by beautiful autumn colours.

Initially, there are lots of exciting wet-into-wet washes, which are then further developed with some dry-brush work.

Then all this is pulled together with more detailed brushwork, before moving on to the final elements of the rushing water and rocks.

A really enjoyable, satisfying project, with plenty to get our teeth into.

Happy Painting,
Geoff.
