Langstone Mill, Chichester Harbour - Preview

I am always on the lookout for the next painting subject, so when I saw this scene on a photo taken by my colleague, Roddy, I knew instantly it would make a good painting and more importantly a good tutorial subject.

Firstly (as is often the case) I think it was the big expanse of sky that drew my attention; but I also liked the loose reflections of the landscape in the sea, particularly the way they are broken up by the slightly disturbed surface of the water.

The scene is then completed by the little glimpse of shore in the bottom right hand corner which anchors it down and gives us context.

A very enjoyable project.
