I took the photos I used for this painting when I was gathering material for a watercolour landscapes calendar a few years ago.

It was a bright winter’s day with the sun low in the sky, creating quite a few silhouettes and dark areas.

This gave me a great opportunity to use some imagination with colour, hopefully giving the scene a slightly warmer feel.

There are lots of wet into wet washes, contrasted with the detail of the bridge and bandstand, all complimented by the soft reflections in the river which lead our eye to the focal point.

I hope you enjoy painting it as much as I did.

Happy painting,
Geoff.
