I think this evocative little scene makes an excellent watercolour landscape subject, which I have graded as one, mainly because I think it’s all about atmosphere and light, rather than a lot of intricate detail.

What appealed to me was the isolation of the church, set amongst the vastness of the lonely marshes, with just a narrow river snaking its way into the scene affording us some foreground interest and perspective.

Once again it gives us the opportunity to start out with a big sky, setting the scene, for this moody landscape.

A really exciting project to get to grips with.

Enjoy, Geoff.
