For this latest tutorial, I have chosen Norfolk; an area that I am quite familiar with, and regularly return to for ideas and inspiration.

It looks like a windmill, but actually it’s one of the many windpumps, that you can find scattered along the Norfolk Broads, that were constructed to pump water from the drainage dykes, into the broads, and tidal waterways. It’s just my sort of subject with lots of sky above the conical shape of the building itself, and a little glimpse of water between the reeds and grasses of the marshy landscape, that’s perfectly positioned to reflect the warm red of the tower. It’s even got a couple of sheds!

Happy painting.
